Solar panels
A solar project should begin with its purpose and the property's energy data, not an arbitrary panel count. Reducing grid consumption, providing power during an outage and heating water are different requirements. Photovoltaic panels produce electricity; a solar thermal collector provides heat. Backup operation must be deliberately designed with suitable controls, an appropriate inverter and, where required, battery storage.
Energy demand and site conditions shape the design
Provide monthly consumption data, identify major loads and their operating times, and include planned additions such as electric heating, cooling or vehicle charging. For backup, list only the loads that must remain available. Building area alone does not define electrical demand, while a single bill may conceal seasonal variation.
A site assessment should cover usable area, orientation, pitch, shading, roof condition, safe access and proposed cable routes. Mounting must suit the roof structure and covering. If structural condition is uncertain, obtain an appropriate assessment before equipment is purchased.
Review the complete system, not just the modules
A quotation should identify the inverter, mounting system, DC and AC cabling, connectors, isolation and protection, earthing, monitoring, and any distribution-board work. A battery proposal also needs compatible equipment, usable capacity, installation conditions and a clear operating strategy. Panel and inverter compatibility depends on electrical characteristics and string design, not merely their headline power ratings.
Compare assumptions and commissioning deliverables
Compare exact equipment models, quantities, layout, protection, delivery, installation, commissioning, documents and exclusions. A production estimate should disclose its input data and assumptions about shading and system losses. It is a forecast, not a guaranteed yield or payback period.
At handover, retain layouts and electrical diagrams, model and serial details, test records, shutdown instructions, monitoring access, warranty terms and the service contact.
