Survey work may provide a topographic base, site measurements, construction setting-out, transferred levels or an as-built record. These are different deliverables. Turn.am lists independent providers; it does not perform surveys or approve their use in formal procedures.
Start with the intended use
Identify who will receive the result: a designer, construction team, property owner or authority. Design may require terrain and existing-feature data; construction may require axes and levels; verification may require an as-built survey. Boundary or cadastral work can involve separate procedural requirements.
A survey does not itself resolve ownership disputes or replace architectural design, engineering investigation or property valuation. Obtain the receiving party’s specifications before commissioning work.
Provide site and reference information
Share the address, work boundary, photographs, existing plans, design files, coordinates and benchmarks where available. Explain restricted areas, fences, dense structures and access arrangements. Construction setting-out needs approved dimensions, axes, levels and a defined reference system; design conflicts should return to the responsible designer.
Agree accuracy and deliverables
Accuracy should match the intended use. A general topographic base, structural setting-out and a boundary procedure do not necessarily share one requirement. Confirm the coordinate and elevation systems, reference points and how they will be documented.
List the required outputs: printed plan, PDF, editable CAD file, coordinate schedule, elevations, marker diagram or as-built report. At handover, check area coverage, legends, reference-system information and whether files open in the requested format.
Plan construction visits
Define the stages requiring a surveyor and the elements measured at each visit. Features that later become covered should be surveyed while accessible. An as-built survey needs a defined subject and an agreed method of presenting comparison data.
Compare providers and costs
Cost may reflect site size and shape, access, point or stage count, accuracy, reference-data condition, deliverable formats and return visits. Send the same brief to each provider and distinguish fieldwork, processing and additional attendance.
