Ready-made garments or cut-and-sew production?

For logo printing or embroidery, clarify whether you will supply the garments or the producer will source them. Ask for the garment brand or specification, fabric composition, weight, colors and size range. For made-to-order clothing, the brief should also cover the pattern, measurements, fabric, trims, seams, labels and finishing.

A supplier that prints on blanks may not manufacture garments, while a sewing workshop may outsource printing or embroidery. Ask who is responsible for each stage and who approves the final result.

Choose decoration for the design and fabric

Options may include screen printing, direct-to-garment printing, heat-applied transfers and embroidery. Suitability depends on the artwork, number of colors, detail, placement, fabric and order size. Instead of selecting a method by name alone, send the design and ask for a recommendation with a sample or comparable example.

Embroidery adds stitched texture but may not suit every very small detail or lightweight fabric. Print appearance and feel vary by method. Confirm dimensions and placement for each garment size.

Prepare a production brief

• garment type, intended use and quantity by size;

• logo in an appropriate production file, plus color references;

Approve a sample before the full run

A digital mockup checks layout, but it does not show the actual garment, print feel, embroidery density, fabric behavior or finished color. For a production order, agree whether a physical sample or pre-production sample will be made, what it costs and which changes are allowed before bulk work starts.

Understand the quotation

Price depends on garments or fabric, quantity and size mix, artwork preparation, number and size of decoration areas, printing or embroidery method, labels, sampling, packaging and delivery. Ask whether setup, sample revisions, taxes and replacement of defective items are included. Compare quotes using the same garment specification and artwork.

Quality checks for the finished order

Compare the delivery with the approved sample. Count pieces by size and color; check print or embroidery placement, spelling, color consistency, seams, labels and visible defects. Agree the acceptable tolerance and process for shortages or defective pieces before production.
