What Does Door Installation Include?

Measure Before Buying
Before purchasing, confirm the door and frame dimensions, wall thickness and opening direction with the installer. If the floor finish is not yet installed, explain the planned finished level. Measuring only the old door leaf may not be sufficient for choosing a replacement set.
When discussing opening direction, share a plan or photograph showing furniture, switches and neighbouring doors. Confirm that you and the supplier mean the same configuration when referring to left- or right-hand opening.
Replacing an Existing Door
Clarify whether the old frame will be removed or retained. Fitting a new leaf to an existing frame depends on dimensions, hinge positions and the frame's condition.
Removal may reveal damaged or uneven areas. Agree on who will repair the opening, finish the surrounding wall and remove waste. Door installation does not automatically include plastering or painting adjacent surfaces.
When Should Installation Take Place?
Coordinate the appointment with the supplier, installer and other renovation trades. Conventional doors and concealed-frame systems may require installation at different stages. Ask how complete the walls and floor should be and when the doors should arrive.

Checking the Finished Work
Open and close the door several times with the installer present. Check that it does not rub against the floor or frame and that the handle and closing mechanism operate smoothly. Inspect trim joints, visible surfaces and any damage caused during the work.
Ask when the door can be fully used, taking account of the materials applied, and whom to contact if adjustment is needed. Clarify installation workmanship terms separately from the door manufacturer's warranty. Record any outstanding defects before confirming completion.
