Family and couples counseling

Family counseling is a unique format of psychological work, which aims to prevent, restore  broken interpersonal relationships, develop favorable relationships,   overcome emotional problems in family members or one of the members. Family psychotherapy is psychological support for and through the family. It is aimed at creating an opportunity for personal growth for all family members, redefining family roles and positions. This type of counseling is also used in divorce and parent-child relationships.

The choice of methods and techniques used during family counseling is largely determined by the professional, theoretical orientation of the psychologist/psychotherapist (psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, Gestalt, etc.).

Couples counseling is one of the types of family counseling, the main object of psychotherapeutic influence and intervention is disturbed interpersonal relations and psychosexual problems between couples.

Couple counseling can also be used at the initial stage of a relationship to find out the psychological compatibility of couples.

One of the family members can apply for overcoming family problems and receive psychological support. In case of family problems, based on the specifics of the claim, the format of couple, parent-child or family meetings is most effective.

If family or couple counseling is carried out and the need for individual psychological work also arises, then the family member passes it on to another specialist, one specialist works with the couple or family problems, and another specialist performs individual counseling. The same specialist cannot simultaneously implement and’ couple, and’ individual counseling of one of the couples.
